Westhampton - The Dominican Sisters Family Health Service is a New York-based charity that is comprised of a Catholic community-based Visiting Nurse Service. These highly skilled and professional health care teams work primarily within Westchester, the Bronx and Suffolk County. Nurses go directly to clients and families houses so that patients can receive health care and remain within the comfort of their own homes.

On Thursday, June 10, an exclusive fundraiser was held to benefit the charity at the beautiful and secluded Westhampton Yacht Squadron. Guests in attendance included several nurses, nuns, sponsors and members of the Board of Directors.

Guests were serenaded with a live music performance by Marken Music, Inc. as the sun dipped below the horizon in the distance. They were able to peruse the gifts lined up on tables for the Chinese Auction and sip delectable cocktails from the open bar. Gifts included Chanel perfume and cosmetics, Hildreth's blue floral dishes; Gateway Theatre tickets for two for "Hello Dolly," knitting baskets, bottles of Wolffer Estate wine, and Wine & Cheese tasting for two at Baiting Hollow Vineyards. Several Westhampton High School Senior Exchange Students were also in attendance, selling cash raffle tickets to the guests. All proceeds benefited the charity.

After the rain ceased falling and guests finished dinner, a rainbow appeared out in the distance above the water. Guests stood on the patio or wandered down to the shore, enjoying the respite from the summer storm. The winners of the raffle were soon announced, and guests were also able to collect their gifts from the Chinese Auction.

As federal and state funding for home care decreases, the demand increases. That is why charities such as the Dominican Sisters are so necessary in order to support the growing need to give aid and care to patients who either cannot afford to remain in the hospital, or choose to remain within the comfort of their own homes. Home care can make a difference; it can save a life. These nurses are dedicated to making a difference in their patient's lives, and for them, nursing is not simply a job - it is a livelihood enriched with giving back to our fellow mankind.
