Jean Shafiroff is so known for her record breaking fund raising that we always thought she should write a book showing how it’s done. Now she has. Shafiroff’s “Successful Philanthropy – How to Make a Life by What You Give” is inspirational, aspirational and educational. And remunerational. There have been so many book signings across the East Coast, we suspect she needs to rest her right hand. Back in New York, Shafiroff hosted a celebration at her Park Avenue apartment, where she was joined by Georgina Bloomberg, who wrote the introduction to the book, and who has worked with Jean to raise money for the Southampton Animal Shelter.
Geoffrey Bradfield, Suzette Charles, Rita Cosby, Alex Donner, Curtis Ellis, Scott Elkins, George and Hillie Gurley, Roy Kean, Carl Kempner, FOX News correspondent Rick Leventhal, Anne Rapp, Stan Rumbough, Randi Schatz, Martin Shafiroff, Daisy Soros, Zang Toi and Mortimer Zuckerman were among the packed Park Avenue party.
“When you give, you get, and what you get is the reward of knowing that what you are doing is making the world a better place,” Jean told guests. She thanked the representatives of the charities to which she has devoted her efforts including Robert Chaloner, President of the Southampton Hospital, Elise McCabe-Thompson, President of the NYC Mission Society, Valerie Steel, Head of The Couture Council, Steve Bernstein, President of Southampton Hospital Board, Anna Oliveira, President of NY Women’s Foundation, Yaz Hernandez, President of Couture Council, Elizabeth Stribling, Chairman at French Heritage Society, and also the Southampton Animal Shelter. We know they are thankful to have such a powerhouse on their team.
Additional guests included Tomaczek Bednarek, Judy Bernstein, Margaret Butler, Liliana Cavendish, Rita Cosby, Kipton Cronkite, Clara Del Villar Scott Elkins, Dawne-Marie Grannum, Dr. Penny Grant, Carl Kempner, Jim Luce, Beth Shak, Victor de Souza and Lauren Wilcox.
“Successful Philanthropy” is a practical guide to modern giving that redefines the term for today’s era. Far beyond making monetary donations, philanthropy today encompasses giving time and knowledge, resources that can be just as valuable as financial contributions. “Successful Philanthropy” offers the practical guidance and inspiring perspective that empowers all of us to take part in building a better world. Readers will learn to identify their passions and interests and discover how they can guide their philanthropic work. The book also offers insight on how to find the best ways to choose a charity that will offer personal fulfillment while also making the best use of your contribution to the cause of your choice.
