Life@Nite: Memorial Day Weekend Wrap-Up

Southampton - The Hamptons summer season kicked off with parties and celebrity spottings throughout the various Hampton villages.

Singer Katy Perry was dancing to the beats of Chris Lake at South Pointe in Southampton during the early hours of Sunday morning. Perry was accompanied by a large group of friends and nightlife veteran Jonathan Schwartz who moved from the relaxing outdoor cabanas indoors, to a table attached to the DJ booth. She requested songs by Jay Z and Rihanna. The drinks of choice for the "Fireworks" star were Veuve Cliquot, redbull and beers. She went incognito wearing a large beach hat, sunglasses and a long, concealing dress.

In Southampton The Capri hotel debuted The Girls of Summer DJ Series on Saturday with music by DJ Harley Viera-Newton.

Southampton Inn celebrated the beginning of the Hamptons summer season with its annual BBQ and pool party on Saturday. Kicking off the long weekend with a splash, the local landmark hosted guests for a sunny afternoon of poolside fun with delicious food and drinks. The bash also marked the summer opening of OSO, the Inn's casual-chic restaurant, and its recently updated adjacent outdoor dining area. Guests had the chance to sit back, relax, and enjoy traditional barbeque fare, prepared by OSO Restaurant's new chef, Kurt Haiquitz.

Also in Southampton DJ Cassidy spun at new Greek restaurant Nammos during the Haute Living and Bertaud Belieu party to mark the opening of the new lounge run by Alex Julian and Eric Marx.

In Amagansett Banzai Burger kicked off their season Saturday with a kickoff party where guests enjoyed music by DJ PJ Monte while sipping cocktails by Russian Standard Vodka and dining on sliders and sushi. Sunday strarted Reggae Sundays at Banzai Burger where guests enjoyed music by DJ Vibe followed by a performance by Project Vibe.

Surf Lodge kicked-off Memorial Day Weekend with a performance by The Drums on Saturday.

Also in Montauk on Saturday Gurneys Inn Resort held the Day & Night Memorial Day Weekend Grand Opening with performances by Party dBerrie and The Chainsmokers.

 • HBO's Real Sports host Bryant Gumbel was spotted shopping at Christopher Fischer East Hampton boutique where he purchased an orange cashmere zip up and a dress for his wife, Hilary Quinlan.

 • After a recent split from long-time girlfriend Sofia Vergara, The Onion Crunch owner, Nick Loeb, indulged at Beaumarchais East Hampton on Saturday. Loeb celebrated the holiday weekend with a crew of his closest buddies and had a bros "Beau Brunch" ordering bottles of Rosé and plenty of their ever popular tuna tartar. Loeb was also spotted dining at Southampton Social Club on Sunday night.

 • Russell Simmons was spotted with Andre Harrell, former President/CEO of Motown Records at SL East while DJ Jesse Marco was spinning on Sunday night.

 • Bobby Flay was spotted eating alone at the bar at the new Osteria Salina on Saturday night noshing on the crudo of striped bass, grilled octopus and pesce spada. He enjoyed it so much he came back two more times over the weekend.

 • On Sunday, artist Peter Marcelle also dined at Osteria Salina after his Bridgehampton gallery opening.

 • Nick Mangold, NY Jets football player, was spotted hanging with his family at Rowdy Hall Sunday night, eating a Rowdy Burger and enjoying a beer.

 • Nick & Toni's was a celebrity hot spot Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night the piano man Billy Joel sat on the porch with his current squeeze. On Saturday night model Christy Turlington had a girls night out with three girlfriends.


Head to Muse in the Harbor to enjoy live music while dining. Steve Frederick plays every Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. and catch Jim Turner Sundays at 6 p.m.

The Backyard Restaurant at Sole East will have live music all weekend starting on Thursday with Reggae icon Winston Irie. On Friday Jetty Koon will perform beginning at 8 p.m. Bossa nova duo Ludmilla and Marcello Pimenta will perform on Sunday during the Jazz and Bosso Nova Brunch starting at 11:30 a.m.

Relax while sipping on Diplomatico Rum punches Sunday while listening to live reggae music at the East Hampton Point beginning at 6 p.m. or at The Stephen Talkhouse beginning at 10 p.m. who also have specials on Diplomatico cocktails.

On Monday, at the Stephen Talkhouse Grammy-nominated Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue perform at 8 p.m. and Diplomatico cocktails will be flowing at the bar during the show.

I can never understand this mind numbing fascination with what marginal celebrities were spotted and where. We live in a BEAUTIFUL place and we should spend more time glorifying it, and not the comings and goings of some vapid par timers
