Susie Roden serves as the Patient Navigator for the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center as well as President of the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Vice President of Lucia’s Angels. To say she is an advocate for women batting the terrible disease would be an understatement. Susie has touched dozens of women’s lives through her work in the community. While 2021 became a fresh start for many, Susie is batting breast cancer for the third time. In response to this major hurdle, Susie has launched a fundraising effort called “Give Cancer the Boot!”
In Susie’s words: “I guess it’s time to take my own advice.” She is determined to conquer this cancer for a third time, stay positive, practice self-care and accept help from the loved ones around her. Once Susie successfully completes her treatment, she will don a pair of pink bedazzled cowboy boots and literally kick a ball (symbolizing the cancer) to the curb.
“COVID may have stopped us from hosting many of our usual fundraising events, but it hasn’t stopped cancer,” noted Susie. This past year has made fundraising for very important causes even more challenging.
While fundraising events may come and go, the reality is that cancer continues to impact an unimaginable amount of women every day, week, month, and year. It’s important that the Hamptons community continues to rally and raise money for this important cause. All proceeds will benefit Lucia’s Angels and the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
