(VI) is hosting its annual Wild at Heart Gala
on Friday, August 3 from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m.
This year's fęte will honor Dr. Carl Safina
, an author and researcher - whose work has been recognized with several prestigious accolades, including a MacArthur "genius" prize, Pew, and a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient. Besides writing seven books, he hosts the PBS
series, Saving the Ocean.
The organization, founded by Dr. Scarlett Magda
, a Sagaponack resident and vet, funds programs that advocate for the humane treatment and care of animals, as well as help provide for better care and living conditions for animals around the world.
Because over 60 percent of human infectious diseases come from animals, the organization strives to improve animals' quality of life, reduce suffering and lessen the potential for the spread of these diseases.
"We recently added Herd Heroes and Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection to our partner portfolio this year, I am most excited about celebrating our diverse programs and showing the good work our team is doing on the ground," Dr. Magda shared.
Upon entering the Wild at Heart Gala
at the Bridgehampton Tennis and Surf Club
, attendees will enjoy a cocktail reception hosted by Christie Brinkley
and Belissima organic sparkling wine. A sustainably sourced dinner will follow.
DJ Alexandra Richards
will provide the evening's music and a beach bonfire will feature this year's top rated whiskey and cigars, courtesy of Davidoff
of Geneva. The Collective You will be documenting the soiree.
"Having her Deepness, Dr. Sylvia Earle present one of my heroes, Dr. Carl Safina my Presidential award is a great honor, and with Christie Brinkley hosting our reception, and Alexandra Richards DJing at a world class venue on the beach, it seriously couldn't get any better!" Dr. Magda added.
This year's Benefit Committee includes Georgina Bloomberg
, Andy Arons, Susan Rockefeller
, Christine Evangelista
, Kate Gilroy, and Dwayne Hill
All proceeds go to Veterinarians International programs.
