Love animals and stand-up? North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) is hosting its 5th annual A Night of Comedy on Saturday, April 21.
Paul Corrigan will host the hilarious affair that will feature uproarious sets from Gary Keshner and Scott Schendlinger, and headliner Jodie Wasserman – who has appeared on NBC’S Last Comic Standing, BET’s Comic View, and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and Comic Remix.
“While there is nothing funny about neglected animals, involving the community through events is vital to our success,” shared Claudia Ferrara, Vice President, NFAWL. “I am very proud to be part of the League and even prouder of the work that they do.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the laughs will continue on through until 9:30 p.m.
“The proceeds from our annual comedy show go a long way towards helping us reach our goals and for the future of a new shelter for the Town of Riverhead,” Ferrara noted.
NFAWL launched its Riverhead Shelter Campaign back in 2015, with the mission of turning the Henry Pfeifer Community Center into a new state-of-the-art animal shelter where the homeless and lost dogs, cats and other animals of the East End can comfortably await meeting their forever family. The current Riverhead shelter, which North Fork Animal Welfare League has managed since 2013, is situated next to a garbage dump and waste processing plant. The decades old building is in desperate need of a major renovation, with bad lighting and ventilation and insufficient space for the animals.
“Please join us for a night of fun, laughs and a Chinese Auction with fabulous donations from our local business community,” Ferrara added.
And with items from Hotel Indigo, Hampton Coffee Co., Blooms by Design, Southold Fish Market, Aura Yoga, Bridge Lane Wine, Roanoke Vineyards, Mattituck Florist, Long Island Aquarium, C. Martin Automotive, Vintage Mattituck, Flying Point Surf, 1943 Pizza Bar, Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, Star Confectionery Store, Tea & Tchotchkes, Sweet Indulgences, Kharmah Boutique, Heather’s Salon, Creations by Lisa, Suki’s Spa, North Fork Fire, The Weathered Barn & original Pet Portraits by Paige Maschinski, earrings/necklace from Stephanie Segrete Sack/Operation Orange Sapphire, The Giving Room, and Suffolk Times Review, the Chinese Auction will certainly be one to remember.
NFAWL, which was incorporated in 1963, operates two local animal shelters: Southold and Riverhead. Its mission is to “return lost animals to their homes, find suitable homes for homeless animals, provide shelter and humane care for animals in need, reduce unwanted births of animals, and enforce laws pertaining to dog control.”
Admission to A Night of Comedy is $40.
