The Thomas Moran Trust will commemorate the final phase of its restoration project as well as unveil the 19th century inspired garden of Mary Nimmo Moran, recreated by the Garden Club of East Hampton, during a festive Garden Party on Saturday, August 5.
“We are very grateful for the generosity of our supporters to date who have made the restoration of the Moran Studio exterior possible. As we move to complete the interior and landscape, additional gifts will be the catalyst that will allow us to complete the transformation of this important asset and open it to public use,” shared Curt Schade, the Trust’s Chairman.
The Garden Party will be held on the grounds of the Thomas Moran and Mary Nimmo Moran Studio, a registered Landmark and one of the first purpose built artist studios in East Hampton, from 6 to 8 p.m. This property served as both a workshop for Thomas and Mary as well as their family home, and all proceeds from the benefit will go towards the restoration effort.
During the gala, the public will have an opportunity to step behind the scenes of the restoration and see the craftsmanship involved in the project firsthand.
“The Moran Studio has been a catalyst for artistic, community and family activity – then and now. We look forward to creating a venue for art, history and environmental programs,” said Jill Malusky, Executive Director of the Trust.
The Garden Club of East Hampton used an 1884 oil painting by Mary Nimmo Moran to guide their recreation of her perennial border garden. On the evening of the gala, the painting will be on display for attendees as will another oil painting of these gardens by her son Paul. Installation of the Perennial Garden began this spring and will continue this summer.
The Thomas Moran Trust is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to restoring the Moran Studio gardens and its four outbuildings. Restoration of the property is expected to be finished in the summer of 2018, and once completed, the Studio will be open to the public as an educational arts center.
Tickets for the Thomas Moran Garden Party start at $150.
