Update: Due to inclement weather, the 27th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner & Chinese Auction has been rescheduled to Monday, March 13th from 4 to 8 p.m.
March marks the 30th anniversary of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc. (IGHL), a Long Island-based not for profit organization that provides services for men, women and children who experience developmental and intellectual disabilities, will celebrate the momentous milestone and continue to raise awareness locally by hosting its 27th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner & Chinese Auction.
The festive fundraiser will take place on Friday, March 10th, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the IGHL’s Manorville Opportunity Center in Manorville. Once again, IGHL CEO Walter Stockton will helm the kitchen and resume his role as the evening’s guest chef.
“We look forward to the St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner every year,” shared Stockton. “Connecting IGHL with the community, serving delicious food, great raffle prizes and fellowship, and with March being Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, it’s important to get the word out about the work IGHL does in this area.”
Attendees will enjoy a buffet dinner, music, a fabulous raffle and more. For those who aren’t in the mood for the traditional Irish meal, a fish dinner will also be available, as will Irish coffee, refreshments and desserts – a la carte.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the IGHL Manorville Opportunity Center and the new Interdisciplinary School (NIS) Day Care.
IGHL notes that one out of five Americans experiences a disability. The not for profit was founded in 1978 to enrich the lives of those who have an intellectual disability. In addition to operating over 50 group homes and day habilitation centers, as well as a 60,000 square foot Opportunity Center, IGHL offers wide-ranging services for all ages at over 100 locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Tickets to the 27th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner & Chinese Auction are $15 for adults, $10 for kids under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
