LongHouse Reserve’s Junior Council is presenting an art surfboard auction featuring boards designed by Richard Phillips, Caio Fonseca, Scott Bluedorn, and other artists, to commemorate LongHouse’s current exhibition, Surf Craft: Design and the Culture of Board Riding.
“This exhibit has inspired us to reach even farther – from the involvement with the LongHouse Junior Council to the plethora of local artists and venues that are participating within our community,” shared Wendy Van Deusen, Associate Curator at LongHouse Reserve. “Surf Craft has been an exciting show, and we are thrilled to ride the wave of its success.”
The show was curated by Richard Kenvin and organized by Mingei Museum in San Diego. An auction preview can been seen throughout the Hamptons. The Surf Lodge in Montauk has a board by Richard Phillips, Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack is showcasing Caio Fonseca, Amagansett Wine & Spirits in Amagansett has Peter Dayton, Air & Speed Surf Shop in Montauk is displaying Scott Bluedorn, Tiina the Store in Amagansett has Fitzhugh Karol, Harper’s Books in East Hampton is showcasing Greg Fadell, The Living Room @ The Maidstone in East Hampton is displaying Darius Yektai, and the LongHouse has Carl Ekstrom (with Jack Larsen Textile). All surfboards were handshaped by Joe Falcone, except Ekstrom’s board.
“The LongHouse Junior Council thought the surfboard auction and event, celebrating the Surf Craft exhibition, was the perfect opportunity to engage the local community and artists who love art and surf,” explained LongHouse Junior Council Member and event organizer Dina Pugh. “We are hoping to connect with a younger generation of arts enthusiasts out east to come be a part of this fabulous organization.”
The auction will culminate with a “Surf Craft” Party and Auction Conclusion on Saturday, September 5th, taking place at LongHouse. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., partygoers will enjoy cocktails, a luau menu and live music. Tickets are $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
Proceeds from the auction will support public programs at the East Hampton-based sculpture garden and center for contemporary art.
