The Robert Giard Foundation will host their first East End event benefiting the Giard Fellowship on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the East Hampton home of Sue Shapiro. This New York City based non-profit focuses on the visual arts and looks to honor the spirit of East End resident and photographer Robert Giard.
Along with remembering Giard, the evening will honor American poet and memoirist Mark Doty, winner of the National Book Award for Poetry.
Giard was a portrait, landscape, and figure photographer who lived in Amagansett with his long time partner, Jonathan Silin. Giard’s artistic content focused on human sexuality, gender and the LGBTQ experience, and has since earned the foundation an annual grant of $7,500, the largest visual arts fellowship given for the subject areas.
The Hamptons event will also feature a silent auction of Giard’s 1984 signed and framed print, Hedge and Hillocks.
The Robert Giard Fellowship Comes Home to the Hamptons: A Benefit with Guest of Honor Mark Doty will take place on Sunday, August 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets start at $125 per person.
