“Sometimes what we do in the hospital is not enough, and that is why I want to extend beyond the walls of the hospital to help those suffering from cancer,” said Megan Flynn who is hosting the upcoming “Charity On Tap” benefit along with Ana Guarino.
On Thursday, December 26, Flynn and Guarino (aka Hamptons Hustlers) are hosting a Special Ladies Night, “Charity On Tap,” at the Southampton Publick House with proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The cause is close to both Hamptons Bays residents; the duo lost their friend Katie Spellman to childhood Leukemia in 2008.
“We ultimately need to find a cure and the best way to achieve that goal is through research,” explained Flynn who is currently in her third year of medical school. “I am not able to participate in research at this point in my career but I can help by raising awareness and donating.”
The Hamptons Hustlers are almost at their goal of raising $10,000 on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon in Nashville, TN.
Guarino who is working on her MBA, previously worked at the Community Health Charities (CHC) of Florida managing fundraising campaigns at the federal, state, and local level for over 60 health charities. During her time at CHC, Guarino worked closely with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and was inspired by the amazing work they do. “It costs $1.8 million a day to operate its facility and programs. Megan and I want to make a difference in memory of Katie and all the other children who have suffered from cancer and other childhood diseases,” noted Guarino.
During “Charity On Tap,” Guarino will share facts about childhood cancer, the Hamptons Hustlers, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital while Flynn is behind the bar mixing up drink specials and donating her tips to St. Jude’s. DJ Tony Kerr will serve as the MC for the event, which will feature donations from local businesses and supporters.
