What are the chances of catching an evening of two Tony Award winning Broadway stars on the same stage east of Manhattan, but west of the Hamptons? On March 2, 2013, it is guaranteed as Brian Stokes Mitchell and Laura Benanti will headline the 2013 Gala on the Main Stage at Stony Brook University's Staller Center for the Arts.

A performing arts jewel for almost four decades, the Staller Center brings the best of world renowned music, dance and theatre to its 1,000 seat Main Stage theater and this year's annual gala is as good as it gets with two luminaries of stage, screen and television performing an evening of Broadway classics and timeless standards. It is not only an opportunity to support one of the region's most prodigious, year-round performing arts venues, but an opportunity to experience an evening of song that should leave attendees breathless.

A prolific Broadway career that spans over two decades, Brian Stokes Mitchell has been nominated for four Tony Awards and won for Best Actor in 2000 for Kiss Me Kate. He has appeared in both film and television and has released numerous CDs with his latest Brian Stokes Mitchell Simply Broadway in 2012. His superb baritone voice has been heard worldwide and he has appeared at American iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl and, yes, soon at The Staller Center for the Arts.

Laura Benanti has also been nominated for four Tony Awards and won both a Tony and a Drama Desk award for her portrayal of Gypsy Rose Lee opposite Patti LuPone in the 2008 Broadway revival of Gypsy. Benanti has numerous film and television credits, including presently starring with Matthew Perry on the popular NBC series Go On.

Ms. Benanti will open the gala, performing with piano accompaniment in classic chanteuse style and Mr. Mitchell will be backed by a quartet of world class musicians. Benanti is expected to join Mitchell on stage to conclude the concert and that should, as they say, bring the house down.

Tickets to the 2013 Staller Center Gala performance are only $65, with Gala Supporter ticket packages available that includes VIP seating at the performance, high-profile acknowledgement in the Gala program and admission to the post-performance reception in the University Art Gallery located in the Staller Center.

Just an FYI for car-less city dwellers, take the LIRR Port Jefferson Line to the Stony Brook station, walk about 100 feet to the adjacent university parking lot and simply get on the Stony Brook University loop bus for transport to the Staller Center.
