Among the writers who will be reading are: Roger Rosenblatt ("Making Toast" and "Unless It Moves the Human Heart"), Melissa Bank ("The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing"), Mark Doty, David Rakoff, Matthew Klam, Julie Sheehan ("Bar Book"), Helen Simonson ("Major Pettigrew's Last Stand"), former poet laureate Billy Collins, and Meg Wolitzer ("The Uncoupling").

The founder and publisher of TSR is Robert Reeves, the director of the MFA program in Writing and Literature and the annual Southampton Writers Conference; editor-in-chief is Lou Ann Walker; poetry editor is Sheehan. From the time when Reeves first came up with the idea five years ago, Walker said recently, the goal has always been to give a balanced presentation of established and emerging writers.

Published twice a year, TSR is characterized by Walker as an international publication open to all, with a special emphasis on writers and artists of the East End. "Basically, we're looking for the best," she said. "To emphasize our love of humor, we decided to include cartoons, but it's serious and poignant, too: the whole breadth of human experience."

Holding a mirror up to the community where it is published, TSR also includes a great deal of fine art, much of it by artists of the East End community, but also from the creative community all over the world, with special emphasis on students in the Manhattan and Southampton tracks of the MFA program. "TSR shows the strength of our faculty," Walker said, "but a lot of the writers we focus on, both the famous and the not famous, are not from our faculty and not from here on East End."

Artists whose work has been included in TSR include: April Gornik, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Risko, Jules Feiffer, Eric Fischl, Jackson Pollock, Thomas Moran, William Merritt Chase, Chuck Close, Fairfield Porter, Childe Hassam and Larry Rivers, among others.

One high point in the five-year history of TSR was the second number of volume III, a 216-page tribute to Frank McCourt, the author of "Angela's Ashes" and a longtime teacher at the Southampton Writers Conference, published in the summer of his death in 2009.

Tickets to the gala fifth anniversary launch of TSR are $10, cash or check at the door. For reservations, call 631-632-5152 or visit their website.
