- Five local women, friends for over 40 years have come together to form an amazing new organization with one goal - to help those in need!
Nana Cares, Inc. - The Kattie O. Berkoski Foundation, named after the mother of three of the women; Teresa Loper Schurr
and Tara Loper Mansir
of Springs and Tina Loper Ozturk
of Montauk, is following in the footsteps of its namesake.
Kattie enjoyed nothing more than helping those in need on the East End. This organization will reach out to those struggling financially by offering assistance with life's basic necessities.
The sisters, joining forces with two other sisters, Vanessa Miller Bock
of East Hampton and Fran Miller Silipo
of Springs hope to eventually offer programs such as counseling, health and wellness and parenting at no or low cost to East End Community member, as well as offering a Scholarship to anyone in the community interested in continuing their education and pursuing a career in the field of Human Services.
The organization will support two like minded local 501 (c)(3) organizations regularly and will choose one "Charity of the Year" to support each year. This year's recipient will be "Lucia's Angels," specifically Lucia's Room at Southampton Hospital
The kick off fundraising event will be a "Sock Hop" on Friday, July 15 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Please contact Nana Cares at 631-903-3861 for further information.
