If you happen to find yourself in need of provisions in Riverhead, don't miss a chance to support
Kent Animal Shelter, who has been chosen as the
Stop & Shop Community Bag Program Beneficiary for the month of March.
Launched in May 2019, The Stop & Shop Community Bag Program allows customers to give back to the community by utilizing reusable bags. "This program gives shoppers the opportunity to support a charitable cause in their communities while helping the environment,"
Pam Green, Director of the Kent Animal Shelter, explained.
Throughout the month of March, shoppers at the Riverhead Stop & Shop (1615 Route 58 Old Country Road, Riverhead) will have the opportunity to purchase a $2.50 reusable Community Bag, and for every bag purchased, $1 will be donated to Kent Animal Shelter.
Since the program was established, it has championed 3,367 non-profits and 531 hunger relief organizations, and donated $424,489 and provided 773,950 meals to hunger relief organizations. It has also resulted in 3,395,792 paper/plastic bags not being used.
"We are extremely excited to be chosen by Stop and Shop for the entire month of March to be the recipient of donations that will be utilized to provide vaccinations and medical care to the animals rescued from crisis situations in 2020," added Green.
The Calverton-based animal shelter's mission is "to provide a no-kill haven for homeless, abused and abandoned animals until permanent homes can be found." For more than 50 years the non-profit, no-kill animal shelter has helped save the lives of tens of thousands of animals. Currently, more than 100 animals await finding their forever home.
Kent Animal Shelter is located at 2259 River Road in Calverton. For more information, call 631-727-5731 or visit www.kentanimalshelter.com.
