As NBCUniversal's Saturday, July 23rd "Clear the Shelters" event draws closer, more and more shelters are joining in on what is shaping up to be an amazing day of adoptions!
The most recent addition to the hundreds of shelters participating in the day's event is Kent Animal Shelter
in Calverton. The shelter has teamed up with NBC
4 New York / WNBC and Telemundo
47 / WNJU for the day of love.
Kent Animal Shelter will be offering no-cost adoptions for dogs and cats 4 years and older. This gives people looking to adopt without the hassle of training and housebreaking a puppy or kitten an easy way to give an older dog a new home.
"If you are wild about puppies, just remember that a good deal of time, effort and patience must go into training, housebreaking etc. It's a window when your four-legged companion will be readied for adulthood in a well-mannered or problematic way," said Pam Green
, Director of Kent Animal Shelter. "Too many times people overlook that fact and are compelled to return their pet to a shelter because they have developed bad habits due to lack of training and supervision."
This year's Clear the Shelters event comes after a highly successful inaugural effort in 2015, which resulted in nearly 20,000 pets finding new homes through an unprecedented partnership between the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations and hundreds of animal shelters located all across the country and in Puerto Rico. The nationwide day of action literally emptied dozens of animal shelters across the country and inspired local communities to take action and open their homes to animals in need.
The waived fee for adopting pets 4 years and older from Kent Animal Shelter will run Saturday, July 23rd and Sunday, July 24th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kent Animal Shelter is located at 2259 River Road in Calverton. For more information, call 631-727-5731 or visit kentanimalshelter.com.
