Owners of Pit Bull Terrier-types of dogs looking to spay or neuter their animals this summer are in luck, as the Kent Animal Shelter
in Calverton prepares for PetSmart Charities' "Primp Your Pit" campaign to prevent unwanted litters across the East End.
With the ultimate goal of helping Pit Bull owners have fewer accidental puppy litters, the August event will make it easier than ever to spay/neuter your fuzzy friend, as the Shelter will be offering up the service for a special $20 rate. This includes not only spaying/neutering services, but also a free doggie nail trim.
"Spaying/neutering your dog is the most effective way to prevent unwanted litters from being born that may ultimately end up in our local animal shelter," explained Pamela Green, Executive Director of Kent Animal Shelter.
PetSmart Charities' "Primp Your Pit" aims to lower the amount of unwanted litters of Pit Bull puppies, which are the most common dogs found in shelters due to myths and misunderstandings about their truly sweet nature. In order to combat this, PetSmart Charities will provide grants to fund animal welfare organizations for the spaying/neutering of Pit Bull Terrier-type dogs during the August campaign.
To take advantage of the special discounted spay/neuter rate, Pit Bull owners must schedule appointments for the procedure. This can be done online at kentanimalshelter.com
or over the phone at 631-727-5731.
The Kent Animal Shelter is located at 2259 River Road in Calverton.
