- Building A Safe Community - Violence Prevention/Investing In Our Youth will be held on March 22, 2012 at the Sea Star Ballroom located in the Long Island Aquarium Exhibition Center in Riverhead from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the eighth youth violence prevention conference offered by the East End Gang Awareness Committee.
Join us as we discuss current trends and strategies for prevention of youth violence and gang activity on Eastern Long Island. This conference is an essential information session for police, youth organizations, all school staff and board members, social workers, parks and recreation staff, faith and community based organizations, residential programs, human service providers, and parents.
This year's keynote speaker will be Milton Creagh
, a nationally known speaker on a host of youth issues including addictions, diversity, parenting, and community change. A very knowledgeable, powerful, and motivating speaker, this will be Creagh's second presentation at this conference. "If you haven't seen him, you must! And if you have, you'll want to come back for more" said a member of the Planning Committee.
In addition to Creagh's presentation, workshop presentations include What Kids Need From Parents and Other Adults; Resources for Out of School Youth; The "Cyber" Playground; Mentoring: Elements of Effective Practice; Too Good Prevention Programs; Drugs and America Today: Current Trends; Gangs 101; and Opening Oneself to Change.
