Did you find the cutest Halloween costume for your fur baby? Dress them up and join North Fork Taps
and Corks for a Howl-A-Ween Costume Party Fur & Fund Raiser, a North Fork Animal Welfare League
benefit, on Sunday, October 28.
The dog friendly event, which is taking place from 12:30 to 4 p.m., will feature a BBQ pop up from Grace & Grit, beer available from Greenport Harbor Brewing
Co., a Chinese auction, and other spooktacular happenings. North Fork Taps and Corks will also screen the Giants
Four-legged attendees and their human companions may don a festive outfit, and those that do will be in the running for best/unique canine ensemble.
A Howl-A-Ween Costume Party Fur & Fund Raiser marks the second North Fork Animal Welfare League benefit spearheaded by Stephanie Segrete Sack. Earlier this year World Cup for Whiskers, another dog friendly event held at North Fork Taps & Corks, raised over $1,000 for the nonprofit.
"To me personally, why it's so important is I'm a huge animal lover. I foster kittens and cats to help rehabilitate them and find them the right homes. We have three of our own, I call them 'foster fails' because now they're our pets," Segrete Sack told us. "For my husband and I, this is one of the most important causes. We love animals and we love helping them and putting them in the right homes. I feel like we give them a great life, but they give us such a great life."
Later on in the year, North Fork Animal Welfare will host its Four Legged Gala at Giorgio's Baiting Hollow on December 2. "We're hoping that people might be motivated, when they come and see all the great work we're doing, might want to participate in our Gala, which is going to be super fun," Segrete Sack shared. "It's our big annual fundraiser."
The Halloween fête will also serve as a chance to celebrate the new state-of-the-art animal shelter. "We've been using the money from the past several Galas to open the Riverhead Shelter. This is kind of a really big moment for us. It will allow us to increase the capacity for the dogs that we can help save, rehabilitate, nurture," Segrete Sack said. "We are a no kill shelter and we are completely reliant on the goodness of the people around us to come and help us, the grants we can get and the Riverhead one is solely a dog rehabilitation center which has training. It's a really fantastic facility and it's just opening up."
NFAWL, which was incorporated in 1963, operates two local animal shelters: Southold and Riverhead. Its mission is to "return lost animals to their homes, find suitable homes for homeless animals, provide shelter and humane care for animals in need, reduce unwanted births of animals, and enforce laws pertaining to dog control."
"We are extremely thankful to Stephanie and to North Fork Taps & Corks for their innovative partnership that is helping raise funds and awareness for animals in need," Denise LeBeau of The North Fork Animal Welfare League shared.
While there is no Howl-A-Ween Costume Party Fur & Fund Raiser admission fee, donations are welcome. "We're hoping people feel generous," Segrete Sack added.
North Fork Taps and Corks is located at 53345 Main Rd #5 in Southold. For more information about North Fork Animal Welfare League, visit nfawl.org.
