Over Columbus Day weekend, head to Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard in Calverton to revel in harvest
season, fit in a little outdoor exercise, enjoy a glass of local vino or two, and raise awareness for a Calverton-based animal shelter.
The 6th annual Wines and K-9's, Kent Animal Shelter
's signature fundraising event, will take place on Sunday, October 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year's run/walk will be particularly important for the Shelter. "Funds raised at this year's Wines and K-9's will be allocated to providing medical care, vaccinations and spay/neuter to animals rescued from flood ravaged North and South Carolina," said Pam Green
, Director of Kent Animal Shelter. "Many dogs have already been transported to the shelter and more will be coming in the following weeks."
So far, Kent has taken in 27 dogs that were transported from North Carolina, and the Shelter expects to provide refuge for many more throughout the next couple of weeks.
Wines and K-9's, a dog friendly affair (four legged friends must be on a leash), will also include an auction, raffles, dog/owner contests - including Costume, Look Alike and Pet Talent, live music, and food and wine will be available for purchase. Attendees will also have the chance to meet Kent Animal Shelter residents that are available for adoption. Additionally, there will be prizes up for grabs along the walk/run course.
The Wines and K-9's entry fee is $30. Those that register in advance will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
Kent Animal Shelter, which was founded 50 years ago, is a no-kill non-profit (501c-3) animal shelter that serves the East End of Long Island.
