On Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company's Peconic location is getting a major makeover when the 1st Annual North Fork Dock Diving Pet Expo and Fundraiser Event takes over. Presented in collaboration with Harbor Pet, the inaugural North Fork DockDogsģ event, the largest and most diversified presenter of dock diving Dog Performance Sports in the world, will be quite the sight for animal lovers. Proceeds from the two day extravaganza will support the North Fork Welfare Animal League (NFWAL) of Southold, Burton Potter Post (division of American Legion) and Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
"We wanted this event to benefit local organizations that mean a lot to us here on the North Fork and Long Island," said Kimberly Loper, Owner of Harbor Pet. "Being able to give back to NFWAL, CCI and Burton Potter Post who do so much for the animals and people in our community is something we are very passionate about."
"The North Fork Animal Welfare League is honored to be one of the recipients of the proceeds from the 1st Annual Dock Diving Pet Expo," added Gillian Pultz, Executive Director of the North Fork Animal Welfare League. "Kim Loper, at Harbor Pet in Greenport, is a consistent and dedicated supporter of the League who epitomizes the ideal of humane pet-centric retail. Co-hosting this event with Greenport Harbor Brewery is sheer brilliance, it just doesn't get any better than beer and dogs!"
Whether you're enticed into getting in on the high-flying splashing action, or prefer to watch in awe, you'll never be bored. The gathering will also feature pet vendors to shop at and pet experts who will be offering up advice, as well as local and national vendors like, Weruva pet food and Greenport Jerky Company. And, if you're currently searching for a new four-legged friend to add to your family, adoptable dogs from NFWAL will be onsite and pet parents can learn about becoming a puppy raiser with CCI.
"We are excited to bring the North Fork's first dock diving event, pet expo and fundraiser to our brewery," shared Rich Vandenburgh, Co-Founder of Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. "Our event will bring in businesses from all around the area, help support local and island-wide non-profit organizations and get to see dogs fly through the air and splash in the pool."
For the non four-legged attendees, Greenport Brewing Harbor will be serving up bites and sips.
Locally based Champion Dock Diving dogs like Long Island's own Tango Munch Pit Bull, and many others from the tri-state area will be participating in DockDogs. Tango impressively averages a 22' jump into the pool and the talented pup journeys across the country to showcase his impressive skills.
"This will be Tango's 2nd full season of competition and he's a 7-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier we rescued as a small puppy," Chris Geymayr, Tango's owner, noted. "At the first DockDogs event we brought Tango to, he jumped 15ft on his first jump, we knew he had something special! He is a pro athlete who competes at the highest level all over the country now."
And, Tango's agility isn't his only extraordinary accomplishment. He's also a well-known dog model that has walked the runway in fashion week, and been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine,
NBC Sports, Huffington Post,
If you think your dog would have a knack for the aquatic dog sport, but have never tested it out, don't worry, first timers are welcome. Each day will offer several competitions, like Big Air, Speed and Vertical.
"What a great way for pet parents to kick off the season here on the North Fork, meet and see new pet products and companies, and enjoy a beer from the brewery," added Loper.
The fees to try out or compete start at $27 per team (dog and handler), for each competition. Participants may register in advance at www.dockdogs.com
or on site the day of the event.
The Pet Expo & Fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
