"I can't wait to share a look inside the book at American Beech since most of the novel unfolds in Greenport," she shared. "It's infused with local color."
The Greenport native is inviting the East End community to "visit" The Wheelhouse Café
for stories, songs and snapshots from local spots that are featured in the book. Lieblein, who has been mixing narratives with soundtracks since the sixth grade, credits her husband Josh Horton, who composed tunes during his years at sea, as the inspiration to create the visual and musical experience. She integrated nine of his songs "to add dimension" to The Wheelhouse Café.
Her goal was to put forth a prose that allures people to get lost as they explore the story of Arden McHale and Captain John Raymond, two lost souls looking for guidance, who meet at the wake of a friend who was lost at sea. Their instant connection may not mean anything, unless Arden changes her fast-paced lifestyle and the Captain is ready to leave his lonely life at sea behind.
Lieblein is a big believer of the collaboration between authors and musicians and says it's a creative way for both artists to reach audiences. Some of the songscapes play a key role in the scene, while others are more nuanced, and the playlist is available online.
The North Fork festivity will be the inaugural happening where attendees can enjoy the story and music live. "The Second Hands will be performing a song paired with a scene in the novel - the first-ever Wheelhouse Café
book/ music mash-up," Lieblein said. "They'll also share some of their original music, and that's where my dream shifts into high gear - having musicians lend their creative spark to Wheelhouse
while also putting their music in the spotlight so they have the opportunity to connect with new fans."
In May, Lieblein will host a collaborative experience where musicians from around the world are invited share their interpretation of a song or songs in The Wheelhouse Café
The merriment at American Beech will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
American Beech is located at 300 Main Street in Greenport. For more information, visit thewheelhousecafe.com.
