Alex Ferrone Gallery will showcase the works of three award-winning east coast photographers in a new nautical exhibition at the Cutchogue-based gallery.
Fair Winds, which highlights color and black & white photographs by Onne van der Wal, Thomas Halaczinsky, and Mark Testa, will premiere on Saturday, September 22.
"The Gallery is excited to be working with these three photographers who are exhibiting diverse creative nautical experiences," Alex Ferrone, Alex Ferrone Gallery Director, shared.
Van der Wal, who is based in Newport, RI, will offer captivating imagery caught during his sailing trips around the globe. The renowned nautical photographer, Canon Explorer of Light, and former winning professional sailor documents mesmerizing photographs of gorgeous scenery, remarkable lighting on ship details, and exciting regatta action.
"Onne van der Wal is considered one of the top nautical photographers worldwide and is exhibiting works of varied sailing subjects from a ship's beautiful detail to the thrilling movement of racing vessels," Ferrone noted.
Halaczinsky, who calls both Brooklyn and Greenport, NY home, will present images from his recently released book,
Archipelago New York. The documentary filmmaker, photographer and writer set out to create a literary logbook of his sailing adventures. For
Archipelago New York, Halaczinsky offers a unique viewpoint of the various chartered islands in the waterways he encountered - from New York Harbor to Fishers Island Sound.
"Thomas Halaczinsky's is presenting photographs from his newly published book that documents his time sailing through area waters," Ferrone said. "Images of serene distant landscapes from his on-deck viewpoint will be on exhibit."
Testa, who hails from
New York City, recorded his two-month voyage aboard the sailing schooner, Spirit of Massachusetts, through
Timeless Journey, a black & white photographic series that explores the artist's time spent as an art student in an aquatic "classroom" as the vessel journeyed from Gloucester, Massachusetts to the Dominican Republic.
"Photographer Mark Testa captured his time almost thirty years ago as an art student on a voyage aboard the Spirit of Massachusetts, and timeless black and white photographs from this two-month sail will be presented," Ferrone shared.
The
Fair Winds artists' reception will be held on Saturday, September 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
