The Shelter Island Cricket Club will host its second annual cricket match to raise money for the Shelter Island Ambulance Corps on Saturday, July 27, 2013. The first game will begin at 11 a.m. on the field next to the Island Boat Yard, followed by a second game at 2 p.m. The day will also feature a junior cricket game between the two matches from 1 to 2 p.m. Lunch will be available from 12 to 2 p.m. and other youth activities will be held throughout the day.

The Shelter Island Cricket Club will play against a "rest of the world" team, which so far will consist of athletes from Britain, Australia, India, Canada, and New Zealand. While there is no admissions fee, donations are encouraged and can be made at the event or online. The Club will also be selling merchandise, lunch, and drinks with 100 percent of all proceeds and contributions going to help fund the Shelter Island Ambulance Corps. SALT Waterfront Bar and Grill organized the food and bar for the event as well as donating part of the proceeds.

Last year's event attracted around 250 spectators and raised $13,000 for the Ambulance Corps which helped the Corps buy training simulators, CPR effectiveness software, and helped support their 4-year goal of buying a new ambulance.

The Shelter Island Cricket Club was founded in 2012 by British ex-pats David Shillingford and Gareth Jones. The Cricket Club has four core purposes, to raise money for charity, to promote the game of cricket in America, to encourage people to visit the beautiful Shelter Island, and of course, to have fun.

Online donations can be made at www.fundly.com.
