As a mom of four, The Living Clearly Method: 5 Principles for a Fit Body, Healthy Mind & Joyful Life author and yoga instructor, Hilaria Baldwin has come to appreciate timesaving hacks – whether it focuses on fitness, shopping, or even sourcing seasonal ingredients.
We recently caught up with Hilaria about the Baldwin’s ideal Hamptons outings, fitting fitness into her busy schedule, social media, the ease of Jet, and more:
You’re always incredibly open and honest on social media, with one of your more recent posts addressing the importance of parents taking care of themselves. When you need a little “me” time, how do you decompress?
HB: I decompress usually by working out because it lets me move my body and I find that moving your body releases a lot of tension and stress. This is why I fell in love with yoga and why I decided to devote my life to it. It’s also just great “me” time because I can listen to some music and I can go for a run or I can go and take a class and focus on my breathing and just really get back into my body so that I’m more present for my children.
You also often share workout tips and tricks on social media. Could you speak a bit about the importance of fitness and what are some of your go-to moves and ways to incorporate fitness into your daily life?
HB: I do these things called found moment workouts, which is what you’ll find on my Instagram and I fell in love with these because as a mother of four – and even when I had fewer kids I went to this – is that I don’t necessarily have an entire hour to dedicate to working out every single day. I found that 2 minutes here, 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there means that all of that adds out to a full workout and you can even argue to say that all of these workouts together and staying moving throughout the entire day is as good and in some ways better than doing one workout and then being very sedentary for the rest of the day.
As the seasons move from summer to fall, what are some of your favorite ingredients to utilize in the kitchen – and your favorite spots to find them?
HB: I am somebody who wants things to be fresh and I try to do organic as much as possible so I do try to stay very seasonal. You know, you want a tomato to taste like a tomato rather than look a tomato and you’re kind of imagining that it tastes like a tomato and you have to put so much stuff on it just to mask that it tastes like nothing. I’ve loved getting to know Jet because they have amazing produce and it comes right to the door and they are so thoughtful in terms of how they’re packaging things. You know, I’m very focused on being eco-friendly now and it feels like a really great fit. Whereas before I would be horrified by the amount of plastic that would arrive on my door and now I don’t have to worry about that anymore.
When you and your family are in the Hamptons, what does an ideal day look like?
HB: This summer we did playful learning and it was an incredible experience for Rafa and Carmen. They went to camp in the morning and Leo and I would drop them off and we would go to the beach and do lots of different fun activities. We would do lots of outdoorsy things. My husband and I love to go to Highway Restaurant. We love to go to Fresno. We love to go to Wölffer Kitchen and it’s just such a magical place.
As a mom of four children ages five and under, how does a curated online experience like Jet.com simplify shopping?
HB: I have so many children and they all have different needs. Throughout the day – every single day – I am thinking about different things that we need. It could be diapers, it could be paper towels, it could be a Burt’s Bees outfit. Whatever it is, it is so easy on Jet because you always have your phone on you (for better or for worse). It’s so easy just to be able to put that into your phone onto the Jet app and you don’t have to think about it and it makes me a more present parent that I can think about other things.
What projects are you currently working on at the moment?
HB: I can’t discuss this with you yet, but something very exciting is coming soon and I can’t wait to share it.
