It's that time of year again, time to wipe the slate clean and begin another year anew. An elegant party is just the way to gather friends and welcome the new year. These decorating tips will give your party the look and feel that Hamptons residents expect. Overall keep it simple, think elegance and have fun planning.

1. Choose Simple Colors: Choose a color scheme that will keep your party sweet and simple. White and silver make a great option and can easily be used throughout all of your decorations. Think silver vases with a variety of white flowers. Or a white tablecloth with a silver table runner. The standard New Year's Eve colors are usually gold, black and silver but if you insist on a pop of color, a hint of Royal blue or a deep purple can add color without stepping out of season.

2. Consistency is Key: A party theme is wonderful but make sure to follow it through in every detail. For example, if you are going for a formal affair style, you could have bow-tie place cards and bow-tie napkin holders.

3. Don't Forget Food Presentation: Have your food take center stage by placing it on stacked cake pedestals. Your cheese and fruits will take on a whole new feel when displayed on these towering pieces.

4. Use Wine Charms: Wine charms can be so much fun and help with those mixed up glasses. To prevent this from happening, look for wine charms that coordinate with your theme. Get creative and consider using fancy party rings or plain-white number stickers applied to the glasses (which can also work great as a countdown helper come midnight).

5. Balloons add a touch of glamor: In fact, when used correctly balloons can actually provide the perfect formal background. Instead of tying them up in bunches, let them fly free along the ceiling. Be sure to stick with simple colors and have ribbons that are long enough to provide that extra touch of drama.

6. Create a Strong Centerpiece: Choose something from your menu to create an alluring centerpiece for the party-goers to admire all night. One great option is to create an old-fashioned champagne flute tower. Stack the champagne glasses up until you get to a single glass on the top. Pour the champagne in the top glass and watch as the rest of the glasses fill with ease.

7. Lighting is Your Friend: Nothing speaks to a formal affair more than dimmed lighting and candlelight can add a touch of romance and elegance to a formal affair. Stick to the same color theme and candles can provide an extra layer of formal panache.

8. Go a Little Retro: Reminisce of simpler times by having some disposable cameras out for your guests to use. If covered correctly, they will not only make great accent pieces for your décor, but they will also provide your guests with entertainment.
