to its Board of Directors. Alessi, Israel and Levan bring extensive expertise and experience to the table that will be a tremendous asset to Peconic Bay Medical Center and the communities served by the hospital.
Marc S. Alessi, Esq. is of counsel at Jaspan Schlesinger, to the firm's corporate law, municipal law, land use and real estate practice groups. He has led a prominent career in government; he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2005, representing the First Assembly District which included the Towns of Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold and Shelter Island. In addition, Alessi also served three terms in the New York State Legislature, serving as Chair of the Sub Committee on the Emerging Workforce focusing on job creation through the development of a better entrepreneurial and economic environment for technology transfer and commercialization. He also helped rewrite the New York State Tax Code in order to grow a regional innovation economy. Alessi has been recognized as one of the most influential Long Island business leaders under 40 by LI Business News-2011; Man of the Year by Suffolk County Police Conference-2010; and Man of the Year by the Long Island Farm Bureau-2009.
Richard Israel has been a real estate broker and developer on the east end of Long Island for 25 years. Israel is involved in both residential and commercial projects that encompass development, construction and management. In addition he has served on the board of Temple Israel of Riverhead for 23 years and has held the position of President for 10 years. Israel has also been a Greenport Rotarian for 20 years, also serving as President.
Joan S. Levan has held executive buying positions with both major department stores and specialty chains. She was Senior Vice President of Woodward & Lothrup, Washington, DC and was the company's first female merchandising Vice President. As President and CEO of ADG Marketing, Levan was responsible for world-wide marketing and was the first female to hold the position of Vice President. In addition Levan has owned and operated 11 store chains in the New York Metropolitan area. Having been elected twice to the Westhampton Beach Board of Trustees, Levan has served on the Board since 2006, and has been the recipient of numerous distinguished awards, including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Woman of the Year Award, the Seton Hill University Distinguished Alumna Leadership Award, the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award and Good Scout Award. She has also been recognized by Outstanding Young Women of America, National Register of Prominent Americans and the Who's Who in American Women.
