This latest generation of MRI Units features a larger bore aperture (an increase from 60 cm to 70 cm). The magnet is approximately one-half the length of conventional magnets, allowing for the patient's upper torso/head to be outside the magnet for many examinations. The Optima MR450w offers more comfort, especially for those patients who are prone to claustrophobia.

During the construction phase, all requests for MRI exams will be accommodated at Southampton Hospital. To schedule an appointment, call 631-726-8285. Extended hours will be available in the evenings and weekends as available. The Hampton Bays Atrium office will remain open for all other imaging procedures.

"While Southampton Hospital is excited about the acquisition of this latest, most-advanced MRI Unit, we are equally proud to offer our recently installed 64-Slice CT Unit, 4D Ultrasound, Digital Mammography, Digital Radiography, and Bone Densitometry providing the highest quality of imaging available," said William R. Brancaccio, MD, Chairman of Southampton Hospital's Department of Imaging and Radiology.
