Southampton - National Chip and Dip Day (March 23) was probably created when there was a lot less to worry about than saturated fats and high calorie sour cream. Still hoping to celebrate? Never fear: there are alternatives for dipping those Pop Chips and Soy Crisps. With these easy-to-make and easy-on-the-hips recipes from House Foods America, tofu makes it modern, smart and delicious to indulge on Chip and Dip Day.

While most traditional recipes for spinach dips or onion dips require a heavy hand with the mayonnaise and sour cream, using tofu as a replacement is an easy way to cut fat and add protein and creaminess. Tofu is a perfect substitution in dips and sauces because it blends into the flavors of the other ingredients while adding body. House Foods America, tofu specialists since 1983, has created several dips using their Soft and Firm tofu that offer all the flavor with fewer the calories, and only non-genetically engineered, soybeans grown in the United States to make their tofu.

Spicy Party Dip

 • 1 x 12 oz. package House Premium Tofu Extra Soft or House Organic Tofu Soft
 • 4 tbsp. onion soup mix
 • 4 tbsp. French style dressing
 • 1 tbsp. diced jalapeno peppers (or to taste)
 • 1 cup Mexican blend shredded cheese
 • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)

Blend together the Tofu, onion soup mix and salad dressing until smooth. Stir in peppers, cheese and cilantro. Cover and chill at least two hours. Garnish with a few jalapenos and cilantro. Serve with crisp tortilla chips and vegetables.

Roasted Red Pepper Dip

 • 1 x 12 oz. package House Premium Tofu Extra Soft or House Organic Tofu Soft
 • 2 cups roasted red peppers
 • 1 cup mayonnaise
 • 1 tsp. black pepper
 • 1 tsp. garlic salt
 • 1/2 tsp. salt

Blend all ingredients together. Cover and chill at least two hours. Serve with vegetables, crackers or seafood.

Spinach Dip

 • 1 x 12 oz. package House Premium Tofu Extra Soft
 • 1 x 10 oz. package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and thoroughly drained
 • 1 tsp. each, chopped fresh ginger and garlic
 • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
 • 1 tsp. seasoned salt
 • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
 • 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar
 • 1 cup canned fried onions
 • 3 Tbsp. sun-dried tomato strips
 • Salt and Pepper to taste

Place all ingredients, except onions and sun-dried tomatoes, in a blender or food processor. Process until mixed, but still chunky. Transfer into a bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup onions and 2 Tbsp. sun-dried tomatoes. Cover and chill at least two hours. Before serving, stir and season to taste with salt and pepper. Garnish with remaining 1/2 cup onions and 1 tbsp. sun-dried tomatoes.
