Ed’s Lobster Bar in Sag Harbor has launched Ed’s Summer Garden, a newly designed and beautiful outdoor space featuring a spacious tent that sits up to 77 guests, in addition to the garden area that sits 27. Customers can now order at the takeout window and wait on the beautiful deck with adirondack chairs and dine in the airy tent or dreamy canopied summer garden socially distant. The lavish area is also available to be rented out for an intimate event.
The server-less restaurant remains steadfast in their speedy service from food runners, weekend brunch specials, and notable guest DJs every Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. I spoke with Chef Ed McFarland to find out the inspiration behind his new summer garden, how the pandemic has affected his lobster empire, and what we can expect from his menu.
What was the inspiration for the Ed’s Summer Garden addition to the Lobster Bar?
EM: We felt that outdoor dining was going to be very important in light of the current situation. And we really feel that it is part of the concept to have a beach style setting at the lobster bar.
How does the Summer Garden’s menu differ from the Lobster Bar?
EM: We run a very similar menu, but place higher emphasis on the raw bar and lighter menu options combined with specialty cocktails.
How have your businesses in NYC and Sag Harbor been affected by COVID-19?
EM: In NYC it’s been more to the negative as people are not in the city, but in Sag Harbor it’s been the opposite and we have been pleasantly surprised with all of the people joining us on a regular basis.
What can customers expect this summer at your establishments in terms of service and safety?
EM: We are taking all precautions as recommended by our government. We are all following the safety protocols.
What is your favorite summer food item and cocktail on the menu right now?
EM: The frozé is definitely the number one cocktail for me right now, but a close second is the Whale’s Tail. I have to say for food it is still the Lobster Roll — no better place to enjoy it!
The family-oriented menu can easily transition into a romantic dinner with their iconic Seafood Towers, Ed’s Signature Lobster Roll, Lobster Pizza with Spicy Marinara, Chilled Crab Gazpacho, Lobster Poutine, Mason Jar Cocktails, and more!
