Shelter Island Historical Society will host its highly anticipated annual Oyster Tasting at the Society’s Havens Barn & Grounds on Saturday, October 20.
“The annual Oyster Tasting is a fundraiser for the Shelter Island Historical Society which celebrates a time in history when oysters were a thriving industry on the East End,” Alice Clark, Shelter Island Oyster Tasting Committee Member, reflected.
Taking place from 4 to 6 p.m., attendees will be treated to raw oysters, oysters Rockefeller, a special oyster pairing featuring Suhru wine, brews from Montauk Brewing Company, King Andrew’s Cheese Truck goodies, bites from Sylvester Manor, and a commemorative glass.
This year, the Society will introduce a new small plate tasting format and eco-friendly compostable tableware. There will also be new kids activities and snacks for little ones.
“The Oyster Tasting features images from the Shelter Island Historical Society archives, highlighting the Shelter Island Oyster Company,” Clark noted.
Tom & Lisa and Friends are back to provide the captivating live music.
“In addition to the educational component, the event has evolved into an Island tradition during a busy 5k weekend,” Clark noted, as the 19th Annual Shelter Island 5K Run/Walk, a USA track and field certified course, will take place earlier in the morning.
“Attendees savor local raw oysters, oysters Rockefeller, cheese and charcuterie, crudité, local beers and wines and cultivate a relationship with the gatekeeper of their island history,” Clark concluded.
Admission is $60 for adults, $40 for children who plan on enjoying oysters, and free for children who will not partake in the oyster tasting.
