Slowly the summer season of 2016 is rolling in like the waves on the Montauk ocean beaches. Part of the reawakening of the Montauk season will be a unique and inaugural event titled, Beyond Twigs, Sticks and Berries, presented at the Montauk Yacht Club on Thursday April 21st at 7 p.m.
In the last 40 years, the American diet has been transformed into various strategies to combat heart disease, obesity and to enhance longevity. Since healthy and smart diets have remained a staple in “The End,” Montauk Yacht Club and Gwendolen Bokine (Gwennie on the Go) teamed up to host Beyond Twigs, Sticks and Berries and offer East Enders some new ideas about embracing the essence of healthy living through eating without compromising on taste. Bokine, a Montauk local, and Chef Paul O’Shea will present a meatless evening of creative delicious and nutritious dishes along with music and dancing. It is open to the public and first timers are welcome!
This will give the famed O’Shea, Executive Chef at the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, a chance to get creative in the kitchen. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and studied at Blackrock College. His acclaimed past includes a dazzling tenure with Odin’s Restaurant London, Hotel and Conferences Centers by Hilton & Marriott in Nashville, MGM in Las Vegas and the 60 acre Hawks Cay Resort and Marina in Florida. This event will give Paul a magical opportunity to introduce himself to the patrons of the Montauk Yacht Club and dazzle them with his world-class culinary skills.
Ms. Bokine, who earned a graduate degree in both History and Educational Sociology from New York University, created “Gwennie on the Go,” which is a platform of life coaching via diet, exercise and spiritual awareness to build strategies to reduce stress and maximize quality of life. She is a firm believer of growing and eating local produce, and enjoys participating in triathlons and other high endurance activities.
As diners nosh on the tasty meal, they’ll be treated to MYC’s chic white-gloved elegance and amazing waterfront views. Home to one of the most notable local bars, singer Frank Sinatra once brought Mia Farrow to Montauk Yacht Club while his yacht was anchored there.
The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina is located at 32 Star Island Road in Montauk. For more information, call 631-668-3100 or visit www.facebook.com.
