UPDATE: East End Grown Mushrooms Take Center Stage During Inaugural Foodie Event

Due to the impending inclement weather forecast, the 1st Annual East End Mushroom Company Mushroom Cook-Off has been postponed until Saturday, October 24th from 12 to 4 p.m. The Cook-Off will still take place at Macari Vineyards.

On Saturday, October 3rd, The East End Mushroom Company is inviting the local community to join them at Macari Vineyards from 12 to 4 p.m. for the First annual East End Mushroom Company Mushroom Cook-Off.

"We are very excited for the First annual Mushroom Cook-Off, for us as a company, and a family, to give back to the community that has generously supported and embraced us over the last two years," shared Jane Maguire and John Quigley, the owners of The East End Mushroom Company. "We are passionate about the work Maureen's Haven and CAST Southold does for local families, and believe it is crucial to support these members of our community that are less fortunate."

Close to 20 local and regional chefs will showcase their culinary talents during the inaugural event, where the featured guests will create tasting dishes using the Shiitake, Maitake, and Oyster mushrooms grown by The East End Mushroom Company at their state-of-the-art facility in Cutchogue. Dishes can be paired with sips from Macari Vineyards and Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. The evening will also feature live entertainment with the Earthtones.

A panel of judges, with the assistance of attendees, will decide which chef/restaurant takes home the honor of best mushroom dish of the day. Judges include local chef John Ross, Edible East End editor Brian Halweil, food writer Monte Matthews, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell, Suffolk Country Legislator Al Krupski, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Southold Town judicial candidate Bill Goggins, and Democratic nominee for Southold Town Supervisor candidate Damon P. Rallis.

So far, participating restaurants include Baron's Cove, First and South, Grana, Highway Restaurant and Bar, noah's, Shelter Island House, Touch of Venice, chef Kyle Koenig (formerly of Topping Rose), and more.

"Giving back is something that was instilled in both of us as children, and we are thankful and humbled to be able to help our neighbors as our company continues to grow," expressed Maguire and Quigley.

Tickets are $50 per person. 100 percent of the net proceeds will be donated to Community Action Southold Town (CAST), a 501(c)3, Not-For-Profit organization dedicated to helping low-income residents meet their basic needs in the areas of nutrition, employment, energy, and education, and Maureen's Haven Homeless Outreach, who provides shelter, support and compassionate services to homeless adults on the East End of Long Island.
