“I think the macaron has captivated the world with its pastel colors. You buy with your eyes first, and then with your stomach,” noted Pâtissier Francois Payard. “Macarons are one of the best gifts because not only are they so versatile with flavors, but the packaging of macarons is always beautiful.”
On Friday, March 20th, Payard is joining forces with City Harvest to host a citywide macaron crawl as part of the 6th Annual “Macaron Day NYC.” The festivity coincides with the original Jour du Macaron in Paris, which was founded by La Masion du Macaron by Pierre Hermé in association with Relais Desserts International. Payard brought Macaron Day to Manhattan in 2010, with the permission of Relais Desserts International and La Maison du Macaron by Pierre Hermé, of course. A portion of all proceeds from participating bakeries will be donated to City Harvest, as well as 100 percent of the sales from the City Harvest Macaron Day apron, available at all FP Patisserie and Francois Payard Bakery locations.
“I wanted to bring Macaron Day to NYC with the Macaron Crawl because macarons have always been a part of pastry in France and throughout the years have become more accessible in NYC,” shared Payard. “I also love how macaron shells can be used as cake decor and can be filled with ice cream for the perfect ice cream sandwich!”
Free macaron samples will be available all day at Bisous Ciao, Bouchon Bakery, Éclair Bakery, Epicerie Boulud, FP Patisserie, Francois Payard Bakery, Macaron Café, Mille Feuille and Sugar & Plumm.
