Three Non-Profits Teaming Up For The Farm Goes to the Dogs (& Cats) Adoption Event

The resident animals of Hallockville Museum Farm (HMF) in Riverhead will have to share their scenic home on Saturday, September 14 with some very special guests when The North Fork Animal Welfare League - which operates the Southold Animal Shelter and Riverhead Animal Shelter, along with the Suffolk SPCA, presents The Farm Goes to the Dogs (& Cats).

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the three local non-profits will raise awareness about companion animals that await their loving forever homes at shelters in Riverhead, the North Fork, and beyond, and hopefully even result in a few adoption successes.

"We are very excited to be partnering with the Hallockville Museum Farm to help find forever homes for our companion animals, along with offering this wonderful educational opportunity," Denise LeBeau of The North Fork Animal Welfare League shared.

Hallockville, which was established in 1765 by one of the area's original farming families, the Hallocks, boasts 19 historical buildings. The area adjacent to the original homestead was dubbed Hallockville after the next generations of Hallocks purchased several surrounding farms. The Farm Goes to the Dogs (& Cats) attendees can learn a little more about the Farm's history and explore these picturesque locales during special tours taking place throughout the day.

The furtastic, family-friendly affair will highlight adoptable pups, cats, and other adorable animals. "The farm is the perfect setting for families to spend the day learning about the area's rich agricultural heritage and fall in love with a wonderful dog, cat or rabbit!" LeBeau added. "Since the League holds the animal control contract for Riverhead and Southold, we do rescue nontraditional companions such as bunnies, which are thrilled to be bringing."

Attendees can also find out about The League's free spay/neuter vouchers, Suffolk County SPCA's efforts to safeguard the rights, safety and well being of Long Island animals, HMF's barn cats - including Benny, who will be onsite to mingle with guests, and meet some of HMF's resident barnyard animals like sheep Ruba, Jamaica, Bud and d'Artagnan, and the beloved Jersey cows, Stella and Chloe.

"The farm also has a few of our barn cats - feral cats who are not indoor companions, we hope this event will help facilitate some placements for them as well," LeBeau noted.
