A complimentary, family friendly Earth Day event, presented by Eastern Long Island Audubon Society, Westhampton Beach Earth Day, and Quogue Wildlife Refuge, will take over the Quogue Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, April 27.

From 12 to 3 p.m. there will be a myriad of ecofriendly activities, entertaining educational offerings, and the chance to revel in and safeguard nature.

The Eastern Long Island Audubon Society will lead guided birding walks, while the Refuge will introduce some of the residents that live at the 300 acre non-profit Nature Preserve during live animal presentations. Crafters will have the opportunity to create something unique by up-cycling or partake in bat-house building. Local environmental organizations will be on hand to chat about causes they champion, and attendees can learn how to be more environmentally friendly at home through products for garden and personal care. If you're looking for a little exercise, enjoy self-guided kayaking or canoeing on Old Ice Pond, There will also be face painting, live music by the Jan Hanna Band, and much more. Hampton Coffee Truck and the MattiTaco Food Truck will be offering up delicious beverages and food.

Have old computers, faxes, phones, small appliances, cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, TV's, radios, or anything that plugs in or runs on battery that is just sitting in your house taking up space? Bring it because EcoTech Management will be on site to collect all E-waste items and there is no fee to dispose of electronics. A Police Officer will be stationed at the HUGS Table to collect unused/expired prescription drugs, OTC drugs and vitamins.

"These recycling programs are important to the protection of our water systems as well as the overall health of our environment," co-organizer, Naomi Hogarty noted. "E-waste, prescription drugs and plastic bags make up a substantial amount of our overall landfill and water pollution."

The event will take place rain or shine.

Quogue Wildlife Refuge is located at 3 Old Country Road in Quogue. For more information, call 631-653-4771 or visit quoguewildliferefuge.org.
