Sylvester Manor Educational Farm is getting in on the East End autumn merriment by hosting their very own fall fête on Saturday, October 27.
“After observing how popular Fall Festivals have become on the East End, we decided it was time to have our very own right here at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm!” reflected Tracy McCarthy, Sylvester Manor Educational Farm Director of Operations. “Celebrating the end of our harvest, the Fall Festival at the Farm is the culmination of the season and guarantees to be an afternoon of fun for the entire family— hayrides, music, crafts, games, chili, face painting, and even a limited edition local craft beer brewed with Sylvester Manor’s own pumpkins, squash and sweet potatoes.”
Sylvester Manor’s inaugural Fall Festival will take place from 12 to 3 p.m. at Windmill Field Farm. In addition to boasting traditional fall festival happenings, the celebration will also include a special competition for those that have a seasonal sweet that earns rave reviews every time they whip it up. “There is also a pie-baking contest open to all amateur bakers of any age,” McCarthy added.
The contest is open to all amateur pie bakers, of any age. Judges will award top honors in the competition’s five categories – Best Traditional (pumpkin, apple, etc), Most Unique, Best Crust, Best Fruit Pie, and Prettiest Pie.
Entries, which must be dropped off at The Farmstand on Saturday, October 27, between 9 and 10 a.m., will be evaluated on their overall impression and taste. Culinary geniuses are limited to just one pie per person and the entirety of the entry – including the pie crust – must be homemade by the competitor. Judging will take place at 1 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids (ages 5-12), $25 for families (up to four people), and free for kids ages 4 and under.
