The Clamshell Foundation Dedicating This Year’s The Great Bonac Fireworks In Memory Of The Krupinskis

Nicole Barylski

Didn't witness enough firework festivities during Independence Day celebrations? You're in luck as The Clamshell Foundation is hosting The Great Bonac Fireworks on Saturday, July 14 at 9 p.m.

This year, The Clamshell Foundation is dedicating the annual display to the memory of Ben and Bonnie Krupinski, who tragically passed away in a plane crash last month along with their grandson Will Maerov and the plane's pilot, Jon Kenneth Dollard.

"Ben and Bonnie will be greatly missed," reflected William Kalbacher of The Clamshell Foundation. "They have done so much for the people, charities and organizations without ever asking for recognition. The Clamshell Foundation wants to dedicate the fireworks to them and for all they have done for the community."

The three-decade long tradition featuring Fireworks by Grucci is staged over Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton. The best viewing spots to camp out at include Maidstone Park and Sammy's Beach, Gann Road, as well as the beaches off of Hands Creek Road Springy Banks Road or the head of 3 Mile Harbor.

The late writer, actor and founder of The Paris Review George Plimpton established the event back in the early 1970's. Plimpton, who always had a fond spot for Paris, presented the extravaganza at his Sagaponack and Amagansett homes the first Saturday after Bastille Day, a French national holiday.

Additionally, later in the summer The Clamshell Foundation will host its Sandcastle Contest at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett on Saturday, August 4.

The Clamshell Foundation was established in 1996 to enhance the lives of those that live on the East End of Long Island. 100 percent of all profits from the New York 501C3 not-for-profit corporation are reinvested into the community to aid projects and efforts including college scholarships, food banks and fish seeding programs.
