Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, it was revealed that Coopers Beach in Southampton had once again been named to Dr. Beach’s Top 10 Beaches, and now the beloved beach has earned a spot on USA Today’s Best New York Beaches – along with several other East End favorites.
2018 Top 10 Best New York Beach:
1. Fire Island National Seashore – Patchogue
2. Jones Beach State Park – Wantagh
3. Robert Moses State Park – Babylon
4. Tiana Beach – Hampton Bays
5. Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk – New York
6. Cupsogue Beach – Westhampton Beach
7. Million Dollar Beach (Lake George Beach) – Lake George
8. Coopers Beach – Southampton
9. Hither Hills State Park – Montauk
10. Green Lakes State Park – Fayetteville
For the list, 10 Best editors and local experts teamed up with Dr. Stephen Leatherman (Dr. Beach) to select the initial 20 nominees, and from there, the popular vote determined the top ten.
“A highlight of Hither Hills State Park is the 189-site campground right on the beach. Popular for picnicking, sunbathing and swimming, the sandy ocean beach also attracts anglers to its year round fishing,” the site says about Hither Hills State Park in Montauk.
“No stranger to the list of top Hamptons beaches, Coopers Beach on the south shore of Long Island offers a wide swath of grainy white sand backed by sand dunes and stately mansions. A snack bar keeps hungry beach goers happy,” the site notes about Coopers Beach in Southampton.
“Occupying 296 acres of barrier island, Cupsogue Beach County Park features lifeguarded Atlantic swimming, as well as salt water bass fishing. Beach amenities include showers, restrooms, changing rooms and a snack bar,” the site explains about Cupsogue Beach in Westhampton Beach.
“Typically less crowded than nearby Ponquogue, Tiana Beach offers both bayside and oceanside barrier beaches, complete with amenities like lifeguards, showers, concession stands, picnic tables and beach volleyball courts,” the site lauds about Tiana Beach in Hampton Bays.
