Is one of your resolutions to get healthier in the New Year? Plan on attending one of these Hamptons New Year's Day hikes.

East Hampton Trails Preservation Society is presenting a Hither Woods New Year's Day Hike at 11 a.m. The 8 mile route will take hikers through the forested expanse of Hither Woods in Montauk. One can expect a moderate pace with some hills and it is recommended that participants bring food and liquids. Those interested should meet at the Hither Hills West Overlook at 11 a.m. For more information, visit www.ehtps.org.

Monday, January 1 happens to be the first full moon of the year and you can enjoy the magnificent astronomical body during a 3-mile walk through the wood at Mashomack Preserve that begins at 5 p.m. Mashomack Preserve is located at 79 South Ferry Road in Shelter Island. For more information, visit www.nature.org.

Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt and South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) are also paying homage to the Full Wolf Moon - legend has it that native tribes associated this particular moon to the nightly howling of wolves - with a leisurely-paced one-hour hike through open-field trails at SoFo that begins at 6:30 p.m. Dai Dayton, President, Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, will lead the walk and light refreshments will follow. There is no admission fee to participate. SoFo is located at 377 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton. For more information, visit sofo.org.
