Sprint Or Stroll Into Fall During These Hamptons Walks And 5Ks

Trying to stay in bathing suit worthy shape or get fit this fall? Sign up for these East End races and train for a good cause.

The Sag Harbor Lions Club will present its annual Andy's Run For a Guide Dog 5K on Saturday, September 9, with a Starter's Gun at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The race will begin at 21 West Water Street in Sag Harbor and registration is from 7 to 8:15 a.m. The entry fee is $25 in advance and the Lions Club will match every registration fee with a donation of $30 to the Club's Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, while the registration fee will support the Guide Dog Foundation, the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry, the Club's scholarships and other local organizations. The course is flat with a few small hills and takes participants around Sag Harbor Village. For more information, visit e-clubhouse.org.

The Hampton Bays Lions Club's Over the Bridge 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 9 a.m. Runners will enjoy scenic vistas along the Atlantic Ocean, Shinnecock Inlet, Shinnecock Bay, with incredible views over the Ponquogue Bridge. The course is generally flat and fast. Registration will take place at the Hampton Bays Middle School (70 Ponquogue Avenue) between 7 to 8:30 a.m., and participants will be bused to the starting area at Warner's Park on the South Side of the Ponquogue Bridge. The Mighty Hamptons, a world renowned Olympic Distance course, will be held on Sunday, September 10. Participants will take on a 1.5K swim in Noyac Bay, followed by a rolling scenic 23.8 mile bike tour of the area, finishing with a fast, flat 10K run through North Haven. The transition area opens at 5 a.m. and the first wave begins at 6:40 a.m. For more information, visit eventpowerli.com.

Hamptons Marathon & Half and 5K, a Boston Qualifier, will be held on Saturday, September 23. The favorite fall race for runners, which has sold out the last 10 years, provides a flat, fast run through Southampton Village that offers views of the Atlantic Ocean and Shinnecock Bay that don't disappoint. The race starts and ends at the Southampton Intermediate School (70 Leland Lane), with the Half and Marathon beginning at 8 a.m. and the 5K beginning at 8:15 a.m. Registration is $25 to $125. Southampton Historical Museum will host Paws On Parade, a fun-filled celebration for families and their pets, on Saturday, October 7. Participants will stroll from the Rogers Mansion (17 Meeting House Lane, Southampton) to the Bathing Corporation beach (a 23 minute walk one way) and St. John's Church will host its "Blessing of the Animals". Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Admission is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of. Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) will hold its 24th Annual Stroll to the Sea Dog Walk on Saturday, October 7. The two-mile charity walk to the ocean and back will also feature food, pet-themed vendors, contests, and fun on the grounds of Mulford Farm (10 James Lane, East Hampton). Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association's 4th FRNCA 5K Scholarship Run/Walk, sponsored by Legislator Bridget Fleming and Assemblyman Fred Thiele, is on Sunday, October 15 at 10 a.m. Pre-Registration is $20 and race day registration is $30. Registration will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and the race will take place rain or shine. The run starts and finishes at the Suffolk County Community College Eastern Campus (121 Speonk Riverhead Road, Riverhead). For more information, visit www.itsyourrace.com.

The 18th annual Shelter Island Fall 5K Run/Walk, in support of The North Fork Breast Health Coalition, The Coalition for Women's Cancers at Southampton Hospital and Lucia's Angels, will be held on Saturday, October 21 at Crescent Beach (35 Shore Road, Shelter Island Heights) at 11 a.m. Registration and check-in will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and a free shuttle bus will transport participants from the North Ferry to the staging area between 9 and 10:15 a.m. and back to the North Ferry until 1 p.m. Registration is $30. The 20th Annual 5K Run for the Ridley - a run to help save the sea turtles - will be held on Sunday, October 22. The benefit 5K for The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research & Preservation's Rescue Program starts at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Riverhead. Participants will race through a quiet residential neighborhood, finishing on McDermott Avenue. Early registration is $30 (if postmarked on or prior to September 30), late registration is $35 (if postmarked between October 1 and October 21), and race day registration is $40. Participants are encouraged to show off their creativity and come dressed to run in your best Halloween costume because a prize will be given after the race for the best costume.
