As part of its Hooked on Heritage lecture series, the Eastville Community Historical Society is presenting Native American Life: The Stories We Don't Hear featuring author Tom Clavin.

Taking place on Wednesday, August 30, from 4 to 6 p.m., Clavin will discuss shocking and revealing stories that most Americans don't know about Native American Life, their impact on Native American culture and on America's historical perspective.

"Many people, especially the farther east you go (like on Long Island), are completely cut off from information about native peoples, the past and the present," Clavin explained.

Clavin has spent years researching the history of Native Americans. His books The Heart of Everything That Is and Halsey's Typhoon are New York Times best sellers, while The DiMaggios, Last Men Out, Gil Hodges, Roger Maris, and The Last Stand of Fox Company earned critical acclaim. Clavin has also worked as a newspaper/web site editor, magazine writer, TV/radio commentator and a reporter for The New York Times, and has received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and National Newspaper Association.

Founded in 1981 and chartered by New York State in 1986, the Eastville Community Historical Society of Sag Harbor's mission is to "preserve historic buildings and research, collect and disseminate information about the history of the Eastville area of Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York, County of Suffolk, State of New York, and one of the earliest known working class communities composed of African Americans, Native Americans and European immigrants."

Admission to Native American Life: The Stories We Don't Hear is free.

The Eastville Community Historical Society is located at 139 Hampton Street in Sag Harbor. For more information call 631-725-4711 or visit www.eastvillehistorical.org.
