On Wednesday, September 21st, Westhampton Free Library will host a New Mom Support Group. Motherhood – whether it be for the first time or third – taking care of a newborn can easily become overwhelming. The Library is hoping to offer support to those in need and a safe place where attendees feel comfortable speaking freely about how they’re truly feeling without judgment.
“This group is set up to give support to a new mom who may need some guidance with her newborn,” explained Marie Yervasi, the Westhampton Free Library’s Children’s Librarian and Programmer. “It is also open to not just moms, but also to caregivers if they are interested in having a support system.”
The bi-weekly class will be led by Kate Turza – who will cover everything from how to navigate postpartum to baby soothing and feeding to maternal body changes and identity shift and other important issues that new moms experience. “The class is being mediated by a Post Partum Dula,” she said. “Babies who are able to be held in mom’s arms are welcome.”
The class will provide new moms with the opportunity to bond with other local women that are going through similar experiences and to form a close-knit circle that they can rely on. “During this time it is crucial to network and gain as much knowledge about what to expect in the first few months of having a baby,” Yervasi noted. “This class is about love and providing support.”
The New Mom Support Group will take place on Wednesday, September 21st from 10 to 11 a.m. Registration is requested for attendees and the series will continue on Wednesday, October 5th and Wednesday, October 19th.
