The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) was part of the sea of green that took over Hampton Bays on Saturday, March 19th. SASF staff, volunteers, adoptees, and alumni followed Grand Marshal William Patrick Hughes from the Hampton Bays Elementary School on Ponquogue Avenue to Montauk Highway and west towards the reviewing stand during the annual Hampton Bays St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The adorable dogs of SASF stole the show as they pranced through the Village, while puppies that were too tiny to walk were carried or transported via wagon. The younger volunteers kept the crowd entertained by gifting both human and furry goodies to attendees. And special paradegoers, cats and puppies looking for a forever home, peeked through the windows of the SASF Mobile Spay/Neuter van, while in the front SASF’s Veterinary Assistant, Kim Cannon shared her co-pilot spot with Deebo, the Shelter’s 3 legged dog.
Once again, Mark Ambrico, creator of News 12 LI Dog Days Fridays show, joined the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation St. Patrick’s Day crew. “Mark walks the parade every year by carrying a large dog into the crowds,” said SASF’s Linda Goldsmith, “and sometimes he lets the dog walk part of the way!” Ambrico has come out to support SASF for the past 6 years.
The annual March march is a highlight for both the SASF community and the animals. “We always look forward to the Hampton Bays St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” noted Kate McEntee, Director of Marketing. “It is so much fun and our dogs have a blast walking through town and meeting the community.”
