The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation is welcoming the holidays by presenting two new sweet happenings. The first is their holiday Gingerbread House Contest, which begins on Wednesday, December 9th.
“This contest is a fun opportunity to get in the community holiday spirit,” explained Maureen Rutkowski, project director at Montauk Playhouse Community Center. “Besides traditional houses, the contest is open to any type of structure, as long as all components are edible.”
Entries must be constructed with structures built from gingerbread, graham crackers, etc. and all components must be edible. Its base cannot exceed 24″ long by 18” high and must be concealed by edible product. Submissions will be on display in the Playhouse lobby Wednesday, December 9th through Sunday, December 20th and winners will be decided by popular vote, which will be open Thursday, December 10th through Thursday, December 17th.
“We encourage people to look online at Pinterest and other sites for ideas,” noted Rutkowski. “We have some really creative kids and adults in Montauk -we can’t wait to see what they come up with.” The contest will feature two divisions, adult (ages 18 years and up) and youth (up to 17 years).
The victors will be announced at the Playhouse’s inaugural Cookie Exchange Party on Friday, December 18th at 4:30 p.m.
The Gingerbread Contest entry fee is $10.
