“Addressing mental health is a hardship for many people who may not have insurance, or do not know who to speak with regarding their concerns,” noted Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst. “Whether you have personal questions or are seeking assistance for, or on behalf of a friend or loved one, Mental Health Awareness Day offers access to a range of experts at no cost who can provide you with important feedback and guidance regarding any mental health concerns you may have.”
On Saturday, April 11th, Southampton Town and East Hampton Town are co-sponsoring the 12th annual East End Mental Health Awareness Day at Southampton High School. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the free event will focus on the importance of maintaining mental health and provide vital resources in this essential effort through lectures and workshops. “Changing Times, Changing Minds” shines a spotlight on an imperative topic, as one in five American adults have experienced a mental health issue, according to MentalHealth.gov.
Attendees will hear from guest speakers Kristie Golden, Ph.D., Associate Director of Operations, Neurosciences at Stony Brook Medicine, and Jeffrey Steigman, Psy.D., Chief Administrative Officer with Family Service League. They will speak about the new South Fork Behavioral Health Initiative, which is bringing additional mental health services to the East End. The duo will also discuss the Medicaid Redesign, which will affect how health care is delivered to everyone.
“Changing Times, Changing Minds” will feature morning and afternoon workshops, a panel discussion, and vendors. The all day event is open to anyone concerned with mental health issues including family members, individuals living with a mental illness, community members and professionals.
Registration is available online and registration brochures are available at local libraries as well as the East Hampton Town Hall (159 Pantigo Road, East Hampton) and Southampton Town Hall (116 New York 27A, Southampton). To request a registration brochure, please call 631-702-2445.
