Southampton Animal Shelter dog Delfino celebrated his 9th birthday with a very special celebratory event, making his television debut during Dog Days Friday TV Show on Long Island Cable’s News 12. The show was created by a dedicated Shelter volunteer who works at the station, and each week it features pets from Long Island rescues and shelters. Dog Days Fridays (DDF) airs every Friday morning, running segments hourly from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thanks to DDF, Delfino’s birthday wish came true. While the nine-year-old dog had done exceptionally well in his foster home, he was still waiting for a family to live with permanently. The adorable canine was adopted the day after his segment on DDF to a loving couple who could resist Delfino’s “face mugging the lens of the TV camera.” Delfino’s new Dad, Benjamin Turnil expressed, “He is the light of our life and completes the family.”
According to the Shelter, now that Delfino has found a forever home, he hopes that his buddies at Southampton Animal Shelter find a home of their own. “The average potential adopter is looking for small, cute, young, and cuddly. Delfino was none of those. He is a large sized, senior pitbull mix who waited 6 months for a permanent home,” said Southampton Animal Shelter’s Linda Goldsmith. “Delfino is a foster success! He did so well, that the foster family’s raves about him were very helpful in getting him adopted. Not to mention that he wasn’t camera shy on our LI News 12 Dog Days Fridays Show! Older dogs and cats of any size and breed can be cute and cuddly too!”
Southampton Animal Shelter is open seven days a week. If you are currently unable to adopt a pet, they suggest sponsoring one or becoming a Foster Parent and help make a shelter pet ready for a forever home.
