“We look forward to their enthusiasm and energy in giving back to our homeless animals as part of their program each year,” expressed Southampton Animal Shelter Volunteer Coordinator Gina Martini about the Hampton Bays High School Cross Country team.
For a fifth season, the Hampton Bays High School Boys and Girls Cross Country Team has teamed up with Southampton Animal Shelter for a creative way to train and volunteer for the East End animal shelter at the same time. “Running with the Pack” partners a member of the team with a shelter dog, who they take out for a run on one of the many trails in Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays, which surrounds the shelter.
“Once a week for the month of October, they exercise our dogs and socialize with the cats which gives our animals that extra TLC,” noted Martini.
If you’re inspired by the local track team, join Southampton Animal Shelter on Sunday, November 16, 2014 for a foster workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. Attendees will learn how they can help get a shelter pet ready for their forever home.
Southampton Animal Shelter is located at 102 Old Riverhead Road West in Hampton Bays. For more information, call 631-728-7387 or visit www.southamptonanimalshelter.com.
