7th Annual Christopher’s 5K Run/Walk Benefiting Pediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant Family Support Program

Lindsay Andarakis

The 7th Annual Christopher's Run in Southampton is taking place on Saturday, June 7, 2014. The East End run was established in the memory of Christopher Lesta, a local boy who passed away in December 2007 at the age of five from a rare and untreatable genetic disorder, Hunter Syndrome or MPS II. To continue his memory, the Christopher Lesta Fund, Inc. made a commitment of $50,000 to support the Pediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant Family Support Program at Duke University Medical Center in 2010. So far, the organization has raised $40,000, and the run could help them achieve their goal.

Christopher's Run will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Veteran's Hall, located in Agawam Park (25 Pond Lane, Southampton), and last until 12 p.m. Pre-registration is $25, or $30 on the day of, beginning at 8 a.m. Prior to the 5K, a children's fun run will be held at 9 a.m.

Participants can register online at www.islandrunning.net.

Christopher's Run is also hosting a Chinese Auction on Saturday, June 14, at the North Sea Community House (130 Noyack Road, Southampton) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items include gift certificates and packages from local businesses.
