Sag Harbor - Happy Birthday to Sag Harbor's
John Steinbeck, born February 27, 1902. Canio's Cultural Cafe will celebrate his birthday on Saturday, February 27 at 6 p.m. with readings of Steinbeck's works, focusing on his writings about Sag Harbor. Steinbeck spent the last several years of his life in Sag Harbor, and was a living in the village when he received the Nobel Prize.
While Canio's Books was not yet on the village scene in Steinbeck's days, the Book store would like to think he would have been right at home in this cozy village shop near his home. This Saturday the Cultural Cafe conjures his spirit, with readings by
Canio Pavone, and other members of the community. The readings will focus on his writings of Sag Harbor. Old friends of Steinbeck will share stories of his days in this charming fishing village. Join the celebration to hear about Steinbeck's days as Parade Marshall and his war with the ospreys.
This event is free and open to the public.

I am a volunteer at the National Steinbeck Center, Salinas, CA. Do you plan on recording any of the comments of those who knew and remembered John Steinbeck? Would appreciate any feed-back on this event for our archives. Herb Behrens behrens@redshift.com
